Although I normally do not 'normal' write blog posts without a prescription, I district there today still sometime from an additional blog post in between. Ramadan stands for the door (we begin tonight with fasting), and because it has a lot to do with food and cooking seemed like a few of my own experiences to share with you. Like it or not? Let me know in the comments. For questions I am always open, so do not hesitate to ask them!
Ramadan (Ramazan) As everyone rue la la knows is Ramadan (Ramazan in Turkish), the Islamic month of fasting. It is 28 days of fasting between sunrise and sunset. Contrary to what some believe, it is not just about not eating and drinking, but also to control other temptations and evil thoughts, gossip etc. Ramadan begins 10 days earlier each year because it is based on the Islamic era. This year, Muslims in the Netherlands for that matter is not very easy, we fast almost the most number of hours per day (about 19 out of 24) compared to other countries. In Turkey, for example, at 20.30 dark that here is around 22:30. Fasting Fasting begins tonight at the time of the morning prayer, which is around 4:00 pm. From that moment we eat and drink no more until the sun goes down, the time of the evening prayer (around 22:10 am). It is common to sever eating three dates fasting and then follow the iftar, the "avond'maaltijd. After the last prayer we go to sleep and then we stand around 3:00 pm again for sahur, the 'breakfast'. Then follows rue la la the morning prayer and then we'll get a few hours sleep. And so it goes around the whole Ramadan by.
Meals You often hear stories about huge lavish meals with lots of sweet, rue la la but I can tell you that after a day of fasting and only a glass or two glasses of water does not get much inside. I usually make a normal evening meal and fruit voortoe is more than sufficient. During sahur my husband likes to eat anything from rice or bulgur, myself, I get almost nothing away, especially because rue la la the iftar late. I usually only eat some fruit, and I especially make sure that I drink plenty of water (one gallon during iftar and sahur during another liter). In Turkey, often first soup served at iftar (with Ramazan Pidesi, a special bread that is available only during Ramadan, in the Netherlands it is often possible to buy at the Turkish bakers). Then comes example pilaf with meat and salad on the table and usually iftar ended with tea and something sweet, tulumba, baklava or Revani example. It is certainly wise to take it easy with onion, garlic, spicy herbs and salt to prevent the next day you get a lot of thirst here.'s Cooking Menu ideas for iftar What you naturally rue la la when breaking the fast eat depends on your own preferences, but a few menu ideas for a Turkish Iftar: Tarhana CORBASI (Turkish tarhanasoep) Zeytinyağlı taze fasulye (green beans with onion, tomato and garlic) with bulgur pilavı (bulgurrijst) Sütlü Irmik tatlısı (Turkish semolina) Yayla CORBASI (Turkish yogurt soup) Fırında sigara Boregi (sigara börek from the oven), kisir (Turkish bulgursalade) yumurtalı pommes rue la la salatası (Turkish potato salad with egg), Mantar kızartması (crispy fried mushrooms) with cacik (Turkish tzatziki) Chilled watermelon (put few hours in the fridge) and strawberries voortoe rue la la Mercimek CORBASI (Turkish lentil soup) Sulu köfte (köfte with bulgur in a tomato sauce) with ş ehriyeli pilavı (Turkish rice vermicelli) and çoban salatası (Turkish coleslaw) Kaymaklı kuru Kayisi tatlısı rue la la (dried apricots stuffed with kaymak) and Kabak tatlısı (Turkish sweet pumpkin)
My experience last year, I first fasted throughout Ramadan. I saw advance much against the long days and especially not drink it. It is striking that fasting has cost me. Little effort It was last year right around this time very very hot in the Netherlands rue la la and I had at the end of the day, thirsty but it hampered me in my hardly do or not do. I also had no problems with it when people next to me or ate or drank (fortunately, because curly and Wildebras do finally throughout the day). However, I often had the whole day trek in one particular thing, often a particular drink, where I usually specially went to the grocery store, haha. So I last year for the first time, I believe bought a pack Taksi 20 years because I could not get it from my head. Once I could drink it was unfortunately a bit disappointing, haha, believe that the taste is quite changed in those twenty years. I hope it will be as good this year: at least it seems to be back, cooler that's been nice. This year we hope to cooperate with friend more often
