CENTERVILLE, MA -- The nation’s largest collegiate athletic conference, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, awards the only known annual honor that recognizes combined academic and athletic excellence – the Jostens Institution of the Year Award.
Sixteen times the ECAC has awarded the Jostens Institution of the Year Award to the one of its 300+ member institutions from Maine to North Carolina and west to Illinois, representing NCAA Divisions I, II, and III. ECAC members include the ACC, The A-10, The Big East, and the Ivy League.
Established in 1938, the ECAC, a non-profit service organization, sponsors nearly 100 championships souvenir pernikahan in 37 men's and women's sports and assigns more than 4,400 officials in 12 sports. The ECAC also administers nine affiliate sports organizations and six playing souvenir pernikahan leagues, and through the public relations arm of the conference, souvenir pernikahan more than 2,500 student-athletes in 23 sports are recognized annually.  Finally, the ECAC serves as the primary conference for select members in the sports of men's and women's ice hockey and men's lacrosse.
The Minneapolis-based Jostens is a provider of products, programs and services that help people tell their stories, celebrate important traditions and recognize achievements. Jostens' products include school yearbooks and other memory book products, scholastic products such as class rings and graduation products, and products for athletic champions and their fans.
Only two schools souvenir pernikahan have ever won the Jostens Institution of the Year Award more than once: Williams (6) and Princeton (2). Williams is the only ECAC member to win the Directors' Cup and the Jostens Institution of the Year Award in the same year and the Ephs have done it six times. This is the first time that an institution has won the award in consecutive souvenir pernikahan years.
"Williams is honored to receive again the ECAC's Jostens Institution of the Year Award," President Adam Falk said. "It's a tribute to the many athletes, coaches, souvenir pernikahan administrators, and fans, who together make the Williams athletics program the powerful educational experience that it is." The Ephs will receive their award on Tuesday, September 28, at the ECAC Honors Banquet presented by Jostens. Presenting the award will be Jim Dougher, Jostens National Sports Manager and long-time supporter of the ECAC. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center souvenir pernikahan at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2010 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show.
Williams was almost perfect in ECAC Championships on the year winning four of six events and finishing second in one other. Williams brought home top honors in men’s cross country, women’s souvenir pernikahan crew and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field. The Ephs ECAC men’s souvenir pernikahan cross country championship was their fifth in a row. The Williams men 1V won the ECAC National souvenir pernikahan Invitational Regatta in worceter, MA to claim the program's souvenir pernikahan first national title. Williams College The truly remarkable athletic year in 2009-10 by the Ephs was further burnished souvenir pernikahan by establishing a Division III record in the Learfield Directors’ Cup with a record total of 1,292.25 points, 386.5 points ahead of runner-up Amherst (905.75). The Ephs' margin souvenir pernikahan of victory was the largest in the 15 years of the NCAA Division III Directors' Cup competition, eclipsing their previous souvenir pernikahan record margin of 379.5 back in 2002-03.
Williams led all NESCAC schools with 184 Academic All-NESCAC honorees on the year. Senior Corey Watts, a standout in cross country and track & field, won a prestigious Watson fellowship and classmate Blake Schultz souvenir pernikahan was the winner of the national Josten’s Trophy in men’s basketball that is based on basketball ability, scholarship and community service. Each time I share examples, tell stories, and start with our why I notice two different responses: 1. Arms crossed, furrowed brow, and a blank stare as if to say, this will never work in my school or district 2. Pen frantically attacking the paper, head nodding in agreement, and hands raised with questions. I get it. I ve had both reactions and have come to embrace, promote, encourage, and model the use of social media to share stories, highlight staff, communion dresses make connections, and engage in the learning process through chats.
Inevitably, I am approached by teachers at the end of each session who ask, how do I get my administration to allow mobile devices at school or to embrace the use of social media? The look of despair in their eyes reminds me that while many educators across the globe use social media and web 2.0 tools to increase learning opportunities, to connect with others, engage learners, and share information, there are far too many who are still reluctant or resistant to it altogether.
Change is difficult, especially when thinking about having to change a mindset. However, we must continue to share successful stories of how teachers and students are using social media to positively change lives and impact futures. We can start by looking within our own building. We can then promote what other educators and students are doing from other districts. The more we share, the better the chance we have of turning reluctance and resistance into openness and acceptance.

I’ve been promoting the use of technology and social media for the past 20 years as a teacher and administrator. As more and more people “jump on the bandwagon”, I’ve become rather dismayed at the us vs them mentality that becomes part of most conversations that deal with the use of social communion dresses media/technology. To avoid this, I’ve abandoned that approach and, instead, approach it with from a trust/relationship building perspective where we use whatever tools we can that are appropriate for the situation to build trust/relationships with our students/parents – capitalize on people’s desire to help and “do what is best for students” and promote learning in a variety of ways whenever communion dresses possible. It’s well past the time when we can “wow” others who are resistant with “Look at that!” Instead, professional conversations about learning revolving communion dresses around doing what is best for students goes a lot further in promoting change and building a staff-skill set where people can help one another than anything I have encountered. It works with students, parents and anyone who is resistant to changes that are taking place in education – most of the time. As an administrator communion dresses who has the dubious role of “fixing” schools – changing mindsets and attitudes is something that comes from building trust and relationships, cannot be dictated from on high and will not happen without allowing people to begin where they are at, support them and help them and, then if necessary, have crucial conversations with them.
I’ve never seen a staff/administrator changed by a presentation – I’ also do presenting. In fact, given poorly, I’ve seen it reverse progress that might have continued without an “expert” telling them what to do. You’re correct, we need to share stories of successes – but not until we’ve listened to the other stories – made a connection and then framed the story to fit the situation. After that, it’s supplying support and expecting changes to take place – not hoping that change will happen – that brings about change.

Master jewelers at Jostens collaborated with the Chicago Blackhawks janmashtami to design their 2013 Stanley Cup Championship Rings, which the organization presented players with during a private ceremony this evening in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The ring tells the story of the teams spirit, drive and determination and celebrates the Blackhawks memorable 2013 season and championship victory.
The spectacular ring is framed by the words Stanley Cup and Champions and features the iconic Blackhawks logo fashioned in round brilliant and marquis cut diamonds with custom-cut tapered rubies set on a background of 14 kt. white gold.
The side design features seven baguette-cut rubies and two pear-shaped emeralds set in the shape of the Blackhawks secondary logo. This emblem is set against the background of a “C” formed in yellow gold and yellow diamonds. Each ring is personalized with a championship team members name and respective number against an antique black background.

I ve attended the Jostens Renaissance National manzanita Conference many times and each year I walk away feeling inspired and enthused about my purpose as an educator. While some of the faces in the leadership team are new this year, the foundational principles are still very much alive: relationships, collaboration, sharing ideas, learning, manzanita engagement, and fun.
As always, the keynote presenters, manzanita featured presenters, and breakout sessions leave the attendees excited to implement something new in their classrooms, schools, or school community. manzanita What s unique about this conference is that about 30% of the attendees are students! Students who attend are either formal or informal leaders at their schools. They are just as engaged as all the educators and bring a certain level of energy that is contagious.
As I reflect on day 1, the word that comes to mind is CREATIVITY . Presenter, Kevin Honeycutt (@kevenhoneycutt), is an expert on meaningful learning and he shared several tidbits of information that piqued my interest. His presentation was creatively engaging and he stressed how we can harness the power of technology and relationships to make learning more meaningful for ourselves and for our students:
Administrators have to create a culture that appreciates teachers who try new things. We are all creative and simply need the freedom to put a creative idea into action, reflect on the results, and try again. It s easy to criticize what s new and it takes courage to embrace, empower, and enthusiastically share what risk takers are doing. Protect the risk-takers from the naysayers by publicly recognizing, rewarding, and reinforcing this behavior. The result: more risk-taking behavior by teachers!
Emotion+Learning=Forever Learning. I think about the most favorite teachers at GLHS and who comes to mind are the ones who make learning meaningful by making emotional connections with the content through song, performance, meaningful projects,by creating a supportive and collaboration classroom environment, and setting high expectations. The students respond by being loyal, working hard for the teacher, and removing any walls that would prevent learning from occurring. As a result, students stay after school for hours and on weekends working together to solve problems, complete quality projects, or to perfect a performance. It’s amazing to see!
“We have to teach kids how to love to learn.” We are all creative in our own way and the more we foster creativity in our classrooms and schools, the more we will inevitably help students to learn how to love learning like they used to in their primary years. This is the type of culture we ought to strive manzanita to create!
The keynote presenter, Erik Wahl (@erikwahl), moved the crowd! His story not only resonated with many in the audience, but it was one of triumph. He demonstrated how we can unleash our own creativity and the creativity of our students by learning how to “UNTHINK” . Following are a few nuggets manzanita I gleamed from his presentation:
If we take ourselves too seriously, we block ourselves from performing under pressure. The ability to perform under pressure manzanita not only sparks creative problem solving, but it opens up more opportunities for personal growth and opportunities to help others. I have a tendency to take myself way too seriously at times and it s during these times that I am less creative, less effective, and become almost paralyzed with insecurity. I look to my Savior, my wife, my administrative team, and my PLN during these times to help me let go and just do. Eric reminded me of this today as shared passionate, creative stories that fed the audience.
We are capable of so much more than what we have been preconditioned to do. Mandates, accountability, and standardization squelch creativity. One would be hard-pressed to find an educator who doesn t believe this statement. However, we have to break through these mandated, or often times, self-made barriers to be remarkable at our craft. This resonated with me becuase it’s one of the reasons I continue to participate in the Jostens Renaissance National Conference and connect with others via social media.

Williams College junior center Mike Mayer (Durham, NC) has been named a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy awarded to the most outstanding men's basketball player in the nation in NCAA Division III.
A national selection committee of college coaches, former athletes, college administrators, and selected members valley of fire of the media vote on the Jostens Trophy valley of fire winner. The members of the national selection committee cast their votes based on three criteria: basketball ability, academic ability and community service.
The Rotary Club of Salem (Virginia) Jostens Trophy Committee valley of fire employs a numerical rating to narrow the list of finalists so that the decision can be made on the most objective basis possible. Responsible for the initial valley of fire review of annual nominations, The Rotary Club of Salem narrowed the pool to 10 men.
The 16 th Jostens Trophy presentation will be held during the Rotary Club of Salem's luncheon at the Salem Civic Center on March 21. Mayer is the first Eph junior to be named a Jostens Trophy finalist valley of fire and third Eph overall, joining Michael valley of fire Nogelo '98 and Blake Schultz '10.
Mayer has registered 15 double doubles on the year. Notching 14 points and 10 rebounds in the NCAA First Round game win over Wesley, Mayer has now fashioned a streak of nine consecutive double doubles. On the year Mayer is averaging 17.3 points a game and 9.0 rebounds. He leads NESCAC in rebounds, is third in points and third in field goal percentage (.562). Mayer has recorded 65 assists, blocked 29 shots and collected 17 steals. Additionally, Mayer has made 16 3-pointers this season and has converted 121 of 159 free throws for a .761 percentage.
" Michael Mayer is an outstanding basketball player, an ambitious valley of fire student, and invested in making our campus and community better," commented Eph head coach Mike Maker. "Clearly, Michael represents our program and institution the way it deserves to be represented and will leave both better than he found them."

When Senior Marine Instructor derrick green of JROTC Brian Jostens was informed that last year s field hockey coach would not be returning for the 2013-2014 year, he jumped at the opportunity to coach this year s varsity team. According to Josten, Athletic Director Mary McLaughlin approached him with the dilemma of finding a new field hockey coach. She asked if I might be interested, to which I replied, Yes, yes I am, explained Josten. Josten is an ROTC teacher at UC High. He explained that JROTC helps his coaching in general. The things you learn in leadership training help in coaching and any time you lead a team. I apply a lot of stuff from JROTC to coaching, said Josten. As this year s coach, Josten stated, I am very excited I am able to share the season with these great athletes. So far this season, the team has taken a liking to Josten and his coaching methods. I am a firm believer in working on the basics, derrick green said Josten. We practice handling the ball, passing, and defense regularly. derrick green Josten s coaching techniques have proven effective, according to Center Mid Player Jen Booker. He s a really good coach, said Defense Player Terra Giddens. I think we re doing pretty well. We ve won all our games so far. Goalie Megan Hempsey explained, [Jostens] pushes us to work harder, is extremely motivating, and has a good grasp of team sports in general which has allowed him to get the hang of field hockey quickly. He has helped us improve a lot. According to Josten, he originally did not know anything about field hockey prior to this year. I had never watched a field hockey game before; I didn t know lickety-splickety about it. I knew that it was a team sport, but that s about it, stated Josten. Josten attended a Mt. Carmel Field Hockey derrick green Camp in order to learn more about the game. I asked the coaches a lot of questions. I learned the rules, I learned the drills the girls could do and I learned derrick green about some techniques that they could learn. It was like field hockey 101 for me, he explained. Josten has proven himself a noteworthy coach, helping the team build skill and strong relationships. I want to build a cohesive team. One in which the players mutually support one another on and off the field, explained Josten.

Senior Class Formal Picture: On Wednesday, October 16 senior students need to be dressed in their best for their formal class picture. moda life Order forms will be available soon. Jostens is the company graduation cakes that manufactured the Stanley Cup champions rings for the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks rings are made of 14-karat white gold and 260 diamonds. While the only way to get the authetntic version is to be part of the organization, Jostens is offering graduation cakes replica versions for sale on its web site. According to a report by DNAinfo Chicago, the most expensive replicas cost about $5,500, while the cheapest run as low as $200. RAPAPORT... Jostens designed and hand-crafted the 2013 Stanley Cup ring for the Chicago Blackhawks' victorious sange season.  Master jewelers at Jostens collaborated with the sports team to design these rings that were presented to players during a private ceremony on September 29 in Chicago. 
The ring is framed by the words Stanley Cup and Champions and features the Blackhawks logo fashioned in round brilliant and marquise-cut diamonds with custom-cut tapered rubies set on a background of 14-karat white gold. The total weight of the championship ring is 93.0 grams and includes 260 diamonds sange and gemstones sange totaling sange approximately 14.68 carats. 
The side design features seven baguette-cut rubies and two pear-shaped sange emeralds set in the shape of the Blackhawks secondary logo. This emblem is set against the background of a "C" formed in yellow gold and yellow diamonds. Each ring is personalized with a championship team member s name and respective number against an antique black background. There are five diamond-studded Stanley Cup trophies set on the opposite side, representing a championship title for the years  1934, 1938, 1961, 2010 and 2013.
"Jostens is proud to have partnered sange with the Chicago Blackhawks sange to develop a ring that celebrates sange the team s remarkable win and honors their championship history," said Chris Poitras, the director of sports marketing and development at Jostens. sange "This unique collaboration with the Blackhawks and Jostens master jewelers produced a striking ring design that truly represents the team s achievements, and features the team s motto and symbols in a brilliant championship ring."
In addition, the Blackhawks and Jostens created collectible jewelry for the team's loyal fans in the form of  rings, pendants, earrings and cufflinks that went on sale beginning September 29.
